Questions and Answers

How is Divorce Detox™ different from other support groups?

Traditional support groups provide a safe environment to express feelings and to connect with others going through a similar experience. While these kinds of groups may be helpful, they can often lead to feeling stuck due to excessive focus on the past. The Divorce Detox™ programs are proactive and forward moving and provide the support, motivation and specific tools necessary to move on from divorce.

Does my divorce have to be final in order for me to take the workshop?

Your divorce does not have to be final. Every stage of divorce is challenging, and support is necessary from the very beginning. Divorce Detox™ is available for those going through separation or divorce, contemplating divorce and those that have completed their divorce.

How do I know if I’m ready to do your program?

There is no convenient time for divorce. Seeking divorce therapy help immediately reduces suffering, prevents unnecessary divorce expenditures, and gives you the best opportunity to heal and move on while minimizing impact to you and your family.

Is your program for men or women?

Divorce Detox™ assists both men and women. We have found that the loss and pain of divorce is not gender specific.

What if I can’t afford your program?

Money constraints are common with divorce. When finances are an issue, we can check your insurance plan for you to determine if we can reduce the out of pocket expense. We accept most PPO insurance plans. Participating in the Divorce Detox™ Programs will reduce your overall divorce costs including legal fees, therapy fees and medical fees.

How much does the program cost?

We have many programs at different fee levels. Please contact us for a quote. In many cases insurance covers a portion of the cost if not all.

Where is your center?

The Divorce Detox™ programs take place at our center in Santa Monica. We offer a quiet, confidential and nurturing space two blocks from the beach.

Is it confidential?

Yes, all of our programs are completely confidential. Confidentiality is an essential aspect to building a safe and supportive environment.

Do you offer legal advice?

While offering legal advice is not in our scope of practice, we have aligned ourselves with some of the best divorce professionals in the city including lawyers, mediators, financial planners and other experts. We refer our clients to these resources as needed.

Who runs the program?

Allison Pescosolido, M.A. and Andra Brosh Ph.D. are the founders of Divorce Detox™ and they work directly with clients. Both Allison and Andra have advanced degrees in the field of Psychology, and have extensive personal and professional experience working with divorcing individuals.

What can I expect at my first appointment?

Your first appointment will be 50 minutes. Upon arrival you will be asked to fill out paperwork that collects pertinent information. You will then complete a structured interview to help assess the best course of treatment for you.

What if I’m not comfortable in a group format?

Some people tend to feel uncomfortable or intimidated in a group setting. However, many past clients have remarked on how comforting it is to connect with others going through this difficult life transition. If working in a group format is too challenging, we offer individual programs as well.
